RETAIL FOOD DISTRIBUTION CHANNEL

One of your ultimate desires as a food product manufacturer is that your products will flourish and reach the final consumer safely. Maybe you even find it difficult to reach the demands for your product, asides, your intention as a food manufacturer is that your product is known and consumed far and wide beyond your reach, but it seems impossible or difficult. Here is the antidote to your challenges and it’s no other than a retail food distribution channel, it helps to bring your long-delayed dream into reality.

The food distribution channel is embedded with a lot of activities starting with harvesting, processing retailing, and consumption. Retail food distribution channel, helps you in making your product available in markets and most especially to the consumers.  Distribution is very essential to every manufacturer’s sale, food distributors help you in that they purchase your food products, sell and distribute the products to retailers, food service companies, and many more distributors who are interested in selling your food products.

The retail food distribution channel works in different ways. Let’s take a look at those channels and how they work:

Producer consumer channel: here, manufacturers sell their product directly to the users. This channel is mostly used by farmers whose food products can be consumed immediately after production without being processed. This channel is the simplest of all it is the “do your thing yourself channel”

Food brokers:food brokers are sales agents who make negotiations with food product manufacturers, sometimes they act as manufactures, but they do not have the physical possession of the goods. They help food producers by selling their food products to the wholesaler, retailers, or retail stores such as grocery stores, they sell grown and processed food products. Selling your product through a food broker makes your work easier and less expensive than having to sell and distribute to consumers directly especially when you produce on a very large scale.

Food distribution through wholesalers: this kind of channel is beneficial to both producers and retailers it makes their work more convenient. Wholesalers purchase your food product in large quantities and then help sell them to retailers who in turn sell to the final consumers. retailers can then be retail stores, restaurants, or independent retailers.Retailing as a food distribution channel:  retailers are the final personnel on the channel of distribution, they sell your food products directly to the consumers thereby making your food production a reality because it is one thing to produce food products and making your product reach the consumer is another goal you must achieve, the food production process is not complete if your product has not reached its final destination. The next thing that comes to your mind is how to know the channel that suits you. The type of food you produce and the state of the product before distribution will be the determining factor in this case, but the main aim is that your product reaches the consumer safely.
